We work on buildings of historic, architectural and religious value, carrying out conservation work in line with the requirements of the Soprintendenza, the Italian heritage authority. We look after historic façades and structures, working alongside designers who specialise in heritage.

These sites call for materials and techniques compatible with what is already there, a pace quite different from ordinary building work, and constant dialogue with the authorities that protect the building.

A project on site

Church of Santa Margherita, Siliqua

A country church in the fields outside Siliqua, with an asbestos cement roof, decayed cement render and tuff walls marked by time. The aim of the conservation work was to give it protection and use again without changing its character.

The work centred on the roof, rebuilt in full, on repairing the walls and façades, and on cleaning the features that make the main front recognisable. Every material was chosen to be compatible with a historic building.

The work

Roof

Removal of the asbestos cement roof under the procedures required by law, new chestnut boarding joined to the existing decking and treated with protective impregnant, thermal and acoustic insulation panels, a waterproof membrane and a final covering of traditional curved tiles.

Walls and façades

Careful removal of the decayed cement render, repairs to the tuff walls, new render in natural hydraulic lime (NHL) and finishing with a mineral siloxane paint that keeps water out while letting the walls breathe.

Architectural features

Cleaning of the rose window on the main front, of the entrance door, of the bell and of the cross on the gable, so that the features which give the front its character can be read again.
